For a period of nearly a decade, Hisashi Kurosaki was one of the "grand old men" of the J.League. He was nearing the peak of his career when the League was formed, and had several outstanding seasons at Kashima Antlers before he began to decline in skill and fitness, but his excellent skills as a goal poacher allowed him to linger on, at J2 clubs, until after the league had celebrated its ten-year anniversary.

Although his scoring touch seemed to drop off, around 2000, Kurosaki demonstrated a renewed vigour after moving to J2 club Ablirex Niigata, and continued for three more years to provide a dangerous presence in front of net. Sadly, in his final season, with Omiya Ardija, he failed to reach the century mark in goals scored for his long and impressive career, ending with 300 league appearances and 99 goals.
