Nobuhiro Takeda was one of the stars of Verdy Kawasaki during their glory years, and that is how he us useally remembered. However, Takeda was actually a well-travelled player who made solid contributions at several teams, including Jubilo Iwata, Kyoto Purple Sanga and JEF United. Though Takeda spent his time at Verdy living in the shadow of his strike partner Kazu Miura, in reality he was the more proficient scorer for the team, tallying sixty goals in his first three seasons. A serious injury in 1996 was probably the only factor that prevented him from reaching the 100 goal plateau in the J.League, but he nevertheless had a highly successful career over the J.League's first decade, and was without a doubt one of the league's top strikers during its formative years.
