Overview of J2 Teams

The Japan Football League (JFL) was reorganized in 1999 following the creation of the J2. Since that time, the number of teams has increased to as many as 18 and decreased to as many as 12. This mainly reflects the fact that following the loss of teams to the J.League, it has taken time to find the most ideal format for what is effectively a "division three". In recent years, however, the trend has been towards growth, and after the league was expanded to 18 teams in 2005, it appears that it will probably maintain this format for the foreseeable future.

In 2008, there will be 18 teams in the JFL. The teams that will take part in the 2007 campaign are listed on the right, along with links to the individual team pages
