Daisuke Tomita, or "Dice-K", is one of the unsung heroes of the Omiya Ardija squad. He can play in any position in the back four, though he is used predominantly at left back. Tomita is comfortable with both feet, however, and has been used on occasion as a defensive midfielder, as was the case in the opening game of the 2006 season. Tomita is a solid physical player, yet has the good sense to avoid unnecessary collisions. As a result, he is rarely unavailable for selection, due to either health or disciplinary reasons. His reliability and versatility ensure that he is one of the first names on the team sheet. Although Tomita is approaching 30, the bargain signing from Mito Hollyhock should be around for at least a few more years. Tomita seems to relish clashes against the more competitive teams in the league, and can be counted on to put on a strong performance in these clashes. Though not really known for his offence, he does chip in with important goals in key situations -- such as a last-minute equaliser against Ardija's fiercest rivals, Urawa Reds, in the semi-final of the 2005 Emperor's Cup. | |
