This young defender was a revelation for Shimizu in 2006, earning international recognition after a string of stellar performances both at S-Pulse, and as a member of the U-23 squad. Aoyama's strength is his ability to read the game, though he is strong in the tackle and courageous in the air as well. Possessing excellent vision and a cool head, Aoyama is one of the main focal points of the WIngheads' buildup and passing game. He lacks experience, and may find himself marked with a bit greater intensity in 2007, following his excellent season last year. However, if he can continue to play with the assurance and precision he displayed in 2006, he might expect to be receiving phone calls from Ivica Osim in the near future.
