Takahiro Yamanishi is a good example for any aging star looking to revitalise their career with another club. Yamanishi spent several years as a member of Jubilo Iwata, taking part in all of that team's championship campaigns. However, Yamanishi found himself between the proverbial "rock" of Jubilo's old-boy network (as a graduate of Shimizu Higashi HS, he was a "rival" of the many Shimizu Shogyo grads at Jubilo) and the "hard place" created by a new generation of rising stars. Frozen out of the Jubilo lineup, he headed north to prefectural rivals Shimizu S-Pulse in 2005, and has been a mainstay of the back four ever since. Despite a ten-year career at S-Pulse's bitter local rivals, Jubilo, his high school roots in Shimizu, together with a series of gritty, tough tackling performances helped him win over the Shimizu faithful. Yamanishi is as tough as they come, and remains fiercely committed in every challenge. He is also a decent crosser of the ball, though he doesn't get forward as much as he did in his prime. Yamanishi is held in high regard at Shimizu S-Pulse, and he will almost certainly wear the captain's armband for the Wingheads for a few more years, at least.
