Stadiums in Japan: Mitsuzawa Park Stadium

h3>Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture
Mitsuzawa Stadium is one of the most nondescript, featureless stadiums in the J.League, consisting of four simple banks of seats on all edges of the field, a small press box and a large screen at one end. It doesnt even have a roof for the "prestige seats" at midfield of the home stands. Nevertheless, it has a very long and important history in the J.League, having served as the home stadium to the former Yokohama Flugels, and currently the home stadium of Yokohama FC.

Despite its bleakness and architectural simplicity, there are a number of positive things that can be said about Mitsuzawa Stadium. For one thing, it is very convenient -- located very near downtown Yokohama, with good transportation access. Just as important, the stadium is football-only. While it may be nearly featureless, once it fills up with fans, it is a fairly cozy and intimate venue, with stands quite close to the pitch. The capacity is limited, but for a small club like Yokohama FC, the 15,000+ seats are adequate to handle the crowd for most matches. Since it is football-only, it is even used on occasion by the Yokohama Marinos, especially for cup matches which figure to attract a small crowd. In such cases, the cozy confines of Mitsusawa are far more appropriate than the sprawling sterility of Yokohama International Stadium.

Stadium Access

Mitsuzawa Stadium is easiest to reach by bus, from the main JR Yokohama station, on the JR Tokaido line. A number of bus lines pass the stadium, and you can board any one of the city buses leaving from bus stands number 6, 7, 8, 9 or10, outside the west exit of Yokohama station. Get off at the "Mitsuzawa Koen Iriguchi" bus stop, which is right in front of the stadium park. It is about a three minute walk through the park, to the stadium. The stadium is also located about a 15 minute walk from Mitsuzawa Kamimachi station on the Yokohama Number 3 subway line.
