Maldini struggling to make first Dino Zoff squad

Italy and AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini is struggling to make the squad for the Euro 2000 qualifier in Liverpool against Wales on September 5th.

The Serie A season has yet to start in Italy and Maldini strained abdominal muscles in the 2-1 friendly defeat on Tuesday against champions Juventus. The new Italy squad will be the first named by coach Dino Zoff who took charge after World Cup supremo Cesare Maldini, Paolo's father, was fired last month.
