Dugarry turns down Juventus

First Published: Dec 31, 1998

French World Cup striker Christophe Dugarry has rejected a move to Juventus to stay with French league leaders Olympique Marseilles.

Dugarry coinfirmed he had been approached by the Italian champions two weeks ago but has turned down the chance to return to Italy. he had a dismal spell with AC Milan three years ago and he is not in a hurry to repeat his bitter experiences against organised Italian defending.

Juventus had reached the bidding stage for a Dugarry transfer after a long search for a support striker for Inzaghi after star player Alessandro Del Piero was injured for the season at the end of November. The Turin giants will make a signing when the Italian transfer market opens again at the end of January but Dugarry's rebuff has sent them back to square one and another assessment of Alan Shearer and Davor Suker.
