Newcastle act quickly to land Hamann

Newcastle United are racing to beat a deadline to sign German midfielder Dietmar Hamann.

Bayern Munich have said that personal terms must be agreed before the new Bundesliga season starts and have limited talks to a completion date of July 26th.

The two clubs have agreed a fee of £5 million for the player who can play along the defence as well as in midfield. Bayern are reluctant to sell but the player is keen on all but doubling his current wages with a move to the English Premiership.

Negotiations will take place to find a way of meeting Hamann's personal terms to complete the deal for the World Cup player.
