Monaco reject approach for Thierry Henry

First Published: Jul 21, 1998

AS Monaco have rejected interest from English premiership champions Arsenal in striker Thierry Henry.

The French club say they have received no formal bid for the 20 year old who they do not consider to be for sale. Arsenal are trying to buy a striker before the deadline for the Champions League registration of players on August 20th. The London side know that Dutch World Cup star Dennis Bergkamp is still unwilling to fly and would not take part in any long journeys into Europe. That leaves the English champions with only two fit strikers to go into their third European Champions Cup campaign.

Henry scored three times for France in the World Cup Finals and was one of the most impressive strikers in the early rounds. An ankle injury hampered his involvement in the knockout stages.
