Liverpool deny bid for Paraguay captain Chilavert

English Premiership side Liverpool have denied making a bid for Jose Luis Chilavert.

The Paraguay goalkeeper and captain led his side at the recent World Cup and performed so well he earned a selection to the organisers squad of the tournament. Now his Argentinian club side Velez Sarsfeld say they turned down a £2 million bid from Liverpool to buy the player last week.

Liverpool look set to start the new Premiership season with American number two Brad Friedel still in position behind their defence.
