German defender Olaf Thon has quit international football after Berti Vogts was allowed to stay as coach of the national side.
Vogts dropped Thon after three matches in the recent World Cup and the 32 year old is unwilling to play again for the national team but will concentrate on his career as sweeper for Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen.
Thon played in the 1990 World Cup in Italy and made 52 appearances for Germany. Eight years ago he played in the semi-final penalty shootout win against England but was dropped from the victory in the final against Argentina.
