The Greeks held on for a gritty draw in Tirana and then heard their coach Anghel Iordanescu claim he would not be leaving them to join AEK Athens by the end of the week.

Many remain to be convinced - not least AEK who insist Iordanescu is their new man in charge on nearly double the wages he is being paid to guide Greece through their Euro 2000 qualifiers.

Nobody is happy about the confused situation but reports and rumours of player unrest seem exaggerated after this display.

Greece hung on hard for their point and put in constant effort and running into a scrappy game of few chances.
