Belgium struggled to produce any decent attacking play against a Luxembourg side which expected to lose.

That they earnt a draw is testimony to the lack of attacking ideas produced by the Belgians in this game and highlights a dilemma for their side.

As co-hosts of the Euro 2000 games they have no competitive matches for the next eighteen months and they have used friendlies lik this to experiment with new players and formations. On the evidence of this match it is not working and they are set to look again at their squad requirements for next year and their next friendly engagements. With no pressure to qualify for Euro 2000 after a resolutely negative display at the World Cup there is a danger that the side will stagnate.

That would be a kind description of the poor display last night. The nearest either side came to a goal was a Bob Peeters header against the bar by the visitors.
