Henry remains true to Arsenal faith

First Published: Nov 20, 1998

AS Monaco must decide whether to ban interviews with striker Thierry henry or finally accept that the French international wants a move to Arsenal as soon as possible.

With attempts to sign Nwankwo Kanu stalling in contractual details and rows over bonus money payments, the Arsenal desire for a striker has seldom been stronger. Monaco blocked a transfer attempt for Henry in August and AS Roma were also frustrated in a move to sign the 21 year old. Henry was very vocal in his desire to get to the English champions in an £11 million move only months after signing a new deal with the club from the principality. He again spoke yeaterday of his "dream" of a move to Arsenal and his "love" for the club. Monaco bosses may fine him as they feel let down after making himn the highest-paid player in France to keep him during the summer. His tax-free wage would also deter Arsenal from signing him although their search for a striker may eventually lead to the conclusion that they will have to spend massively to get the right player to come to them - and that could be Henry.
