Anghel Iordanescu will see out his contract as the coach of the Greek national side - after being forced to snub a lucrative offer to take over Athens club AEK.
The former Romanian national team coach was tempted by the double-your-money offer to end his involvement with the Greek team after only three Euro 2000 ties. He has guided them to two draws and a win since September but he had indicated that the game in Tirana against Albania last week would be his last in charge and AEK said he was expected to start coaching them within days.
His bosses with the national team threatened to suspend Iordanscu's career if he did walk out by getting his Greek work permit rescinded. Iordanescu backed down and will see out the rest of his contract for the European Championships.
