Milan make slow Shevchenko progress

First Published: Nov 26, 1998

AC Milan executive Adriano Galliani was in Kiev last night to watch new signing Andrii Shevchenko play in a 2-1 Champions League win against Panathinaikos in freezing temperatures.

Although the 22 year old star of Dinamo and the Ukraine national side has not formally completed a trasnfer yet he is set to join Milan for £13 million as soon as Dinamo are eliminated from the Champions League.

Galliani handles all transfer business for the Milan giants and must have been disappointed at the result. The Kiev win gives them an excellent chance of progressing to the last eight of the Champions League next spring. Shevchenko and Kiev finish their Group matches on December 9th in Lens. Shevchenko is unlikely to play in Italy until Kiev's Champions league campaign is concluded.
