Leeds United are set to buy back former midfielder David Batty in a £3 million move.
Batty was part of the side that won the old English First Division Championship with Leeds United in 1992 but yesterday put in a formal transfer request to leave current club Newcastle United after two years in the North East. The England midfielder also won the Premiership title when playing with Blackburn Rovers in 1995.
Batty sees no future for himself in the Newcastle first team under new coach Ruud Gullit and is keen to move. He remains an England international and is highly regarded by national coach Glenn Hoddle. Batty is from Leeds and new United coach David O'Leary hopes to complete the deal next week.
