Guivarc'h offer gets closer from Blackburn

First Published: Oct 19, 1998

Blackburn Rovers are prepared to rival any bid for Stephane Guivarc'h from Glasgow Rangers.

The ailing English Premiership side are considering a bid in the region of £4 million which they believe will be enough to sign the French World Cup player who is desperate to leave Newcastle.

New coach Ruud Gullit has curtailed plans for an immediate mass clearout of players from the club he took over from Kenny Dalglish but the French player is certain to leave as soon as a suitable buyer comes forward. The former record breaking Auxerre striker prefers a move to France or Italy and is reluctant to stay in Britain.
