Manchester United are to spend the week monitoring the fitness of influential defender Jaap Stam.
The Dutch international has experienced the recurrence of an achilles tendon injury that threatens to keep him out of the climax to the Premiership.
United are chasing hard to catch leaders Arsenal and have four games remaining but Stam is a doubt for their next two matches against Liverpool and Aston Villa. Wes Brown may be needed to fill in for Stam as the club have other injuries in defence. Brown plays for England in his debut game tomorrow night against Hungary in Budapest. Stam is likely to be fit for the FA Cup final and Champions League decider at the end of May but United have to choose whether risking him in the Premiership run in could end his season early.
