Everton hope for Ziege capture

First Published: Apr 27, 1999

Everton are set to start a summer spending mission with a bid for unhappy AC Milan defender Christian Ziege.

The former Bayern Munich player has had a disappointing two seasons in Milan and is ready to quit the club. He has struggled to retain his place in the German national squad and is regarded as a fringe player in the Milan squad by coach Alberto Zaccheroni. The Premiership side are looking to put six years of almost complete struggle and strife behind them in the summer and cement their place as one of the biggest clubs in England. Heavy investment is needed and the Merseyside club see Ziege as a long term investment who would do well in English football. He would cost around £6 million to sign from Milan.
