The pressure on Germany coach Erich Ribbeck is set to mount after this result.

The low scoring Scots came to Berlin content to counter attack against the European champions but came away with a famous win. Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Paul Lambert helped to create the winner when he held possession in attack and fed the ball to Callum Davidson to cross and Don Hutchinson to score on his debut.

Just two minutes before the winner Hutchinson's partner in attack Billy Dodds had reached a clear sight of goal after a Hendry header but he skied his shot.

The German press are sure to mount another attack on Ribbeck afer this poor showing in front of a subdued crowd. Unrest in the German camp has been increased by the row between Ribbeck and Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Baasler and just this morning Ribbeck's boss claimed that Bayern defender Lothar Matthaeus was in line tobecome national team coach.

That statement from Egidius Braun wass supported immediately by Franz Beckenbauer. Influential critics are lining up against Ribbeck and results like this do not help his cause. Scotland looked comfortable throughout.
