Substitute Ionel Ganea scored the winner two minutes into the second half with a powerful left foot drive from the edge of the box in a moment of rare quality on the night. Wet conditions made finishing moves difficult in the sodden goalmouths but Romania dominated the exchanges only to see Moldovan and Nanu fail to convert chances in front of goal with the Belgian defence marking thin air.
