Suspension threat for Hungary

First Published: Apr 30, 1999

Hungary have been threatened with suspension by FIFA unless MLSZ president Attila Kovacs is reinstated.

The head of the Hungarian football authority was removed in February 14th with several aides by government minister Janos Deutsch. He has been attempting to reform the Hungarian authority after allegations of corruption and misuse of funds. FIFA want Kovacs back in charge but have suggested a compromise in which the Hungarian government accepts the findings of an independent audit to satisfy their suspicions about corruption.
