Inter closing in on Seedorf deal

First Published: Aug 23, 1999

Internazionale hope to tie up the transfer of Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf by the end of this week.

The player has again clashed with Real coach John Toshack over team selection before Real's opening day 2-1 win at Mallorca on Saturday and club president Lorenzo Sanz is back in talks with Inter to finalise a £22 million transfer. Real are trying to get more for the player but Seedorf is trying to push through the move by giving up his Real first team place to new signing Steve McManaman.

The player was disciplined twice last season and has looked on the way out of Real since the end of last year. Inter's interest has been the most ardent of several European clubs and they hope that Sanz will allow the deal to go through after the Zurich meeting of the G14 group of top European clubs this week.
