Scotland face two tough away trips

First Published: Aug 27, 1999

Scotland coach Craig Brown has named Gary McSwegan of Hearts in his latest Euro 2000 squad as the Scots face two exacting trips abroad at the start of September.

The side must avoid defeat at least on their trip to Bosnia on September 4th and on to Estonia four days later if they are to secure a chance of the runners-up place behind the Czech Republic. The Czechs wee the first European side to qualify for the finals next summer at the start of June but the Scots know their second place play-off place is in under threat in the tightest qualifying section.

Scotland are joined on 8 points by both Lithuania and Bosnia while Estonia are only a point behind having played a game more than both Bosnia and the Scots.

McSwegan has been in good scoring form for Hearts at the start of the season and hit three goals last weekend. Defender Callum Davidson is suspended for the game in Bosnia but has been included as a contender for a place in the Estonia tie.
