Spain coach Jose Camacho has shown some much needed faith in young striker Fernando Morientes after a difficult summer for the young Real Madrid star.
Morientes' excellent form at the end of last season helped Real to clinch a Champions League place and coach John Toshack is a big admirer. The Welsh coach wanted to build a 4-3-3 formation around the striker's talent until club president Lorenzo Sanz entered the Nicolas Anelka transfer saga with his decisive £23 million offer.
The arrival of Anelka has sidelined Morientes as Real begin to work with the 4-4-2 plan which should exploit the French star's speed. Camacho has stuck by Morientes though and has also seen midfielder Josep Guardiola recover from a foot injury to join his squad against Austria on September 4th in their Euro 2000 campaign.
Spain beat Austria 9-0 in the spring and they have to play Cyprus four days later.
