Bayern Munich training on Friday morning was halted by a fight between club captain Lothar Matthaeus and French international defender Bixente Lizarazu.
The club has gained an unwanted reputation in the past for the volatile nature of its players but the German champions are likely to fine both players for their clash during a practice match. The pair disputed a tackle and then converged to exchange punches. Matthaeus is in his last few months with the German champions before a move to the MLS next January while Lizarazu has only recently returned from a serious knee injury.
Both players are now on international duty before Euro 2000 ties over the next nine days and Bayern recovered from the incident to win 1-0 against Unterhaching from the Munich suburbs on Saturday but with a poor display.
