Germany suffer Deisler loss to thigh injury

First Published: Aug 31, 1999

Germany have ruled out teenage star Sebastian Deisler for their Euro 2000 tie next month after the 19 year old injured a thigh playing for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.

German coach Erich Ribbeck again ruled out a return to the side for Thomas Hassler to fill the creative role in midfield for the game against Finland in Helsinki. Carsten Ramelow is likely to replace Deisler who tore a muscle in his thigh in a 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen. Deisler was signed by Berlin in the summer from relegated Borussia Moenchengladbach.
