United send Blomqvist for more surgery

First Published: Dec 14, 1999

Manchester United have sent Swedish international Jesper Blomqvist for a second operation.

The Swede - a former AC Milan and Parma AC player - has lost the whole of this season so far to a knee injury and is undergone more surgery on the troublesome joint.

Blomqvist was bought for £5 million in the summer of 1998 to understudy Ryan Giggs but United were warned that his two seasons in Italy had been wrecked by a series of injuries. Fitness problems have now returned to hampoer his career after he played in the Champions League win last May in Barcelona.

Blomqvist was treated in Sweden and may not be fit to play again until April.
