Fenerbahce fans drive Moldovan away

First Published: Dec 16, 1999

Fenerbahce striker Viorel Moldovan has decided to quit the Turkish club after an attack on the club's players by its angry fans.

Romanian international Moldovan - signed from Coventry City earlier this year - told Turkish television that assaults on the players by Fenerbahce fans were forcing him out of the club following an attack on Tuesday night in which cars were damaged following a Turkish Cup defeat and goalkeeper Receb Rustu was beaten up. Moldovan claims the entire Fenerbahce squad have received threats from fans who say they must not lose again despite poor form this season for the club.
