England star David Beckham has had his driving ban overturned following an appeal yesterday.
Beckham, who received the eight month ban earlier this week yesterday appealed against the decision and won back his licence following an intervention by the presiding judge who said that Beckham had special reasons for speeding.
Beckham had said in his defence that his reasons for speeding at 76mph in a 50mph were to shake off a photographer who had been tailing him. The judge recognised that this constituted a special reason for speeding although he stated that the Manchester United midfielder could just as easily have slowed down or moved into the inside lane.
Even though Beckham has won back his driving licence, he did not have the conviction quashed and will receive three points on his licence and will have to pay a £2000 fine, although he can still drive.
