Kevin Keegan ended three days of negotiations with the English FA this morning by accepting their invitation to be the next coach of the national side.
His first game in charge will be against Poland at Wembley on March 27th in a game the English cannot afford to lose if they are to compete at the Euro 2000 finals.
The 48 year old former Newcastle United manager will continue to work with English Second Division side Fulham until the end of his contract in June 2000. The ex-Liverpool and Hamburg player will be the first part-time coach of the national side in a contract that will include the 2002 World Cup finals in South Korea and Japan.
Keegan is considering asking his former team mate peter Beardsley to be his assistant coach. Beardsley's club Hartlepool United this morning cleared the way for any approach for the 38 year old. Caretaker boss Howard Wilkinson will return to his post as technical director of the English FA.
