AS Monaco to clinch Schmeichel transfer

AS Monaco are clear favourites to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel in the summer.

The 35 year old Danish captain is ready to leave United after eight years in the intense atmosphere of English football. Monaco are preparing a two year contract for the goalkeeper who they are ready to sign to replace AC Milan target Fabien Barthez.

The World Cup winner is a target for Milan after the collapse of their bid to sign the Brazilian Dida last week. Manchester United will continue to chase Mallorca's highly-rated Argentinian Carlos Roa to replace the Dane and are confident of making a summer signing of the 27 year old.
