Blackburn are hopeful that their £4.5 million capture of Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer is back on track.
The Irish international rejected the move three days ago after Rovers failed to meet his wage demands but the club believe Liverpool could be persuaded to ease the transfer by paying a loyalty bonus to the 26 year old who has never asked for a move. This sum - around £1 million - would be paid to McAteer and cover the short fall in wages and allow the deal with Rovers to proceed. West Ham have dropped their interest as Liverpool are delighted at the prospect of selling the fringe player for £4.5 million and want the deal with Blackburn to succeed.
