Arsenal old guard set to march on

First Published: Jan 20, 1999

Arsenal are set to offer three veteran defenders the chance to stay at the club for at least another season.

The English champions have already offered new year-long deals to 35 year old Nigel Winterburn and 36 year old Steve Bruce and want Lee Dixon, 34, to stay with them as well. Coach Arsene Wenger is scouting for replacements but the fitness level of the older Arsenal players looks set to win them all lucrative new deals with only goalkeeper David Seaman presenting any major worries. He was set to return from a shoulder injury with the reserves this week but was withdrawn from the game.
