Inter still hope to sign Candela

Internazionale are to try again to sign AS Roma's French international defender Vincent Candela with meetings before with weekend between Roma president Franco Sensi and Inter owner Massimo Moratti.

The two men have met before this summer to discuss the on-off move for thee World Cup winner who is keen to move to Milan but whose transfer was blocked by new Roma coach Fabio Capello last month.

AS Roma have been trying to replace the left sided Candela with the FC Barcelona defender Sergi but negotiations have been slow and difficult even though Barca put Sergi on the transfer list at the start of June.

If the capital's club can complete the deal then Candela should be released to join Inter in an £8 million move for the one of the first player's identified for the new look Inter by coach Marcello Lippi when he took over the club's scouting policy last January.
