Outspoken German international Dietmar Hamann has joined Liverpool in an £8 million move from Newcastle and immediately fuelled speculation concerning another transfer.
As he was presented to the press this morning following an acrimonious move from Newcastle, Hamann declared that german international defender Markus Babbel was desperate to join the Premiership club as well.
Liverpool failed to sign Babbel after the World Cup last summer and he has only a year left to run on a Bayern Munich contract.
Babbel turned down a move to Real Madrid last month and speculation of an imminent move to Liverpool was denied by the Engl;ish club. They have been in contact with Bayern and Babbel though and a move to bring the player to Anfield at the end of his Bundesliga career next summer seems certain to succeed.
Hamann described German football in this week's 'Kicker' magazine as "awful".
