Germany ran out second best to the Brazil reserve in this 4-0 eclipse in Guadalajara in the first meeting between these two nations in any competition.

Alex took control of the game with a fine second half display that saw him score two goals for a side that made six changes from the Copa America winners last week. But the star of the show was teenager Ronaldinho who saw a penalty saved and then hit the fourth goal by hitting the rebound past Jens Lehman in goal who received little protection from the German defence with Lothar Matthaeus commanding it again. Ronaldinho set Ze Elias up for a low drive with a perceptive header into space behind the European defence.
