Lothar Matthaeus will leave Bayern Munich in December to begin a career in the MLS.

The Metro Stars in New York have signed the former World Cup winning captain for two years and the Bayern Munich player will leave the Bundesliga on December 18th at the end of the first round of matches in the league season before the winter break. The defender will then begin playing for the New York side under coach Bora Milutinovic next March.

The 1990 World Cup winning captain has still to decide his international future and said recently that he wants to stay involved with the German side as they defend their European championship title next summer in Holland in Belgium.
