Daniel takes over Greek national team

First Published: Mar 29, 1999

Greece have appointed former Panathinaikos coach Vassily Daniel as new head of their national team.

Daniel was approached on Saturday night after the 2-0 home defeat against Norway which led to the instant resignation of former Romanian coach Anghel Iordanescu. Daniel was fired by Panathinaikos on March 3rd but accepted the Greek post immediately although the country now have little chance of qualifying for the Euro 2000 finals next summer. Today is his first training session with the squad before leaving tomorrow to play a tie in Latvia.
