As Franz Beckenbauer jumped the gun in the German press this morning by naming Lothar Matthaeus as the man to coach the national side, the present coach Erich Ribbeck eased recent troubles by scoring a second win inside four days.

Two strikes in four minutes settled the issue against a Finnish side who were unable to mount sustained pressure against the German side.

Jens Jeremies arrived late to hit in a cross and Neuville turned and fired the second four minutes later in the 35th minute.
