Russia 6 Andorra 1, March 31st 1999

First Published: Mar 31, 1999

Russia got the goals but Andorra were not completely demolished in Moscow tonight.

They were always struggling after conceding an early goal to Igor Titov from a free kick in the eighth minute and Vladimir Bestchastnykh hit a low drive three minutes later to increase the lead. Onopko hit a long range shot to make it three goals in the minute before half time.

Ilia Tsymbala was allowed too much space at the edge of the area and his high effort hit the target and Bestchastnykh grabbed his second when he converted a low cross just after the hour.

Andorra claimed the best goal of the night though when Julia Sanchez drifted past four defenders to produce a neat finish before Onopko hit a low drive to make it six for Oleg Romantsev's side.
