Eight calamitous minutes for the Scots in the first half saw the Czech Republic produce a convincing win in Celtic Park Glasgow tonight.

The home side made a fast start but played into the game plan of the fast paced Czech side who were able to soak up pressure and hit them on the break. A fine Neil McCann lob almost produced an early goal but Scottish pressure failed to tell against the Czech defence and then the visitors applied the killer blows.

Matthew Elliott hit an own goal with his head after a cross was allowed right into the danger zone to confuse the Scottish defence and Vladimir Smicer all but walked the ball in at the far post in the 35th minute wh na cross was alowed to cross the face of goal.

In the 67th minute Eoin Jess produced a goal out of nothing when he headed in a throw-in that had been helped on by David Weir. David Weir missed an open goal when he was put off by a narrow angle to fire across the face of goal with three minutes to go.
