Switzerland 2 Wales 0, March 31st 1999

Stephane Chapuisat could not wish for an easier goal in only the fourth minute as the ball ran across the area with Welsh marking collapsing. He passed the ball into the net and the Swiss were comfortable leaders going into the break.

Wales were unlucky not to get a draw in the minute before half time when a Kit Symons header was disallowed after a corner from Mark Pembridge. Striker Nathan Blake was penalised for pushing in the area but the goal looked good. They also hit a post in the first session.

Their slack defending allowed Chapuisat to score his second of the night when the back markers left him alone in the centre of the penalty area for an eay tap in past goalkeeper Mark Crossley.
