Holland squad to tour Brazil

Marc Overmars will miss the Holland tour of Brazil in the first week of next month after injuring his groin in Thailand but coach Frank Rijkaard has revived the international career of Pierre Van Hooijdonk by including him on the trip.

Van Hooijdonk replaces Dennis Bergkamp who has ankle problems and is afraid of flying and it is a big boost for the 27 year old whose career was held up by an ugly striker last summer after he disagreed with the transfer policy of his club Nottingham Forest. Forest were relegated from the Premiership last month and the Dutch striker has long been the subject of interest from other outfits but has so far resisted a move ignoring the sour atmosphere he helped to create at the struggling club.

Overmars has had to pull out after the groin problem hindered his participation in a post season tour of the Far East by Arsenal

Dutch champions Feyenoord provide the replacement with Patrick Pauwe earning his first piece of international recognition.

Holland play Brazil on June 5th and again on June 8th as Brazil prepare for the Copa America in Paraguay at the end of the month and Holland continue to work on a side to play as hosts in the Euro 2000 finals next summer.
