First Published: May 27, 1999

Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar has announced his decision to leave the Dutch club and arrived in Turin this morning to complete a transfer to Juventus.

The 27 year old international was picked on Tuesday to night to go on his country's tour of Brazil next week for two matches and Juve are hoping the formalities of the personal terms they are discussing with the former European Cup winner can be completed quickly.

The goalkeeper has accepted the offer to join Juventus in principle on a four year contract and admitted in Amsterdam yesterday that he had rejected offers from manchester United and FC Barcelona to leave Ajax at the end of his contract this summer. United were still interested in the player at the start of last week but the Dutch player has opted to join Carlo Ancelotti's side and will meet Juve executive Roberto Bettega in Turin this morning. Both parties are optimistic that a deal can be completed by the start of next week.

Juve are selling goalkeper Angelo Peruzzi to Internazionale. New Inter coach Marcello Lippi brought Peruzzi through the ranks at Juve while he was coach there and Peruzzi established himself as the national team goalkeeper for the last World Cup in France. Inter are looking for a buyer at the moment for their former number one Gianluca Pagliuca who was the first choice for Italy at the 1994 World Cup in the USA.
