Steau coach to take charge of Romania team

Romania have appointed a new national team coach with Steau Bucharest boss Emeric Ienei taking over.

The 62 year old's greatest triumph with Steau was a 1986 European Cup win and he replaces Victor Piturca who clashed with several senior members of the Romanian squad over tactics during the Euro 2000 qualification campaign. Ienei will now lead the Romanians in the finals next summer in Holland and Belgium. Staeua are in the UEFA Cup third round and take on Slavia Prague in two weeks
