Liverpool send Redknapp for surgery

Liverpool have sent England midfielder Jamie Redknapp for a knee operation.

The surgery today should help a long standing ligament problem but Redknapp - signed by Graeme Souness from Bournemouth in 1992 - is set to miss the next five weeks of the season. Under England coach Kevin Keegan the player has been used in two midfield positions but was poor in play-off defeat against Scotland when he was played out of plce on the left side.
